HC Deb 13 July 1925 vol 186 cc857-8
55. Mr. W. THORNE

asked the. Minister of Health whether Clause 24 of the Widows, Orphans and Old Age Contributory Pensions Bill, which makes provision against double pensions, applies only to those in receipt of allowances from the Ministry of Pensions; or will it prevent a man who receives an inadequate pension from a local Poor Law or municipal authority from taking an old age pension from the State?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of HEALTH (Sir Kingsley Wood)

There is nothing in Clause 24 of the Bill which would deprive a retired employé of a Poor Law or municipal authority of an old age pension to which he might otherwise be entitled under the Bill. I should, perhaps, add that many employés of local authorities will not be insured for old age pensions under the Bill.
