HC Deb 13 July 1925 vol 186 cc844-5
20. Brigadier-General BROOKE

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether he is aware that Russia is now exporting coal at a loss, in view of its inability to use it at home; and whether any other countries are adopting the same policy.

Mr. SAMUEL

I am aware that Russia has been pushing her cal export trade in the Italian and other Mediterranean markets at what are believed to be un-remunerative prices In the case of Germany, also, it appears likely that the difficulty of disposing of colliery output has resulted in forced sales abroad, but I have no definite information on the point.

Mr. BATEY

Will the right hon. Gentleman inform us what the Government propose to do?

Mr. T. WILLIAMS

Is this country exporting coal at unremunerative prices?
