5. Lieut. - Colonel Sir FREDERICK HALL

asked the Under-Secretary of State, for India whether arrangements have been made recently for the affixing of a largo notice on the India Once Stores overlooking the River Thames; whether the notice in question is an advertisement; if so, will he state what rent" is received for its exhibition: whether it is to be displayed for a fixed period and, if so, for how long; whether the policy of using Government buildings for disfiguring advertisements has received the sanction of the Cabinet; and if he will state whether the Government propose 10 give the necessary facilities for the Advertisements Regulation Bill passing during the present Session?

Earl WINTERTON

The High Commissioner for India, acting as the agent of the Government of India has leased the advertisement rights on the river front of the India Store Depot for a period of five years from the 10th February, 1925, at a rent of £525 per year. The latter part of the question should be addressed to the Home Office.

Sir W. DAVISON

Are any precautions to be taken that the form of advertisements is approved, so that any eye-sore may not be created?

Earl WINTERTON

As the advertisement is already there I am afraid that the eye-sore is there and will stop.

Sir W. DAVISON

I understood the Noble Lord to say that the contract for a period of five yeas. Surely some precaution will be taken as to the nature of the advertisement displays?

Earl WINTERTON

if my hon. Friend wants details, perhaps he will put a question on the Paper. All I can say is that the advertisement is there, and that the High Commissioner for India, acting as the Agent of the Government of India, put it up.
