HC Deb 09 July 1925 vol 186 c591
31. Mr. FORREST

asked the Minister of Health the total number of cases of measles for the last half-year and the total of deaths resulting therefrom and whether his Department can express any reason for the prevalence of this malady in the British Isles?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

Measles is not generally notifiable in England and Wales and I am, therefore, unable to give the total number of cases of this disease which occurred during the last half-year. The number of deaths from measles in England and Wales during the first quarter of the present year was 1,626, but this is a provisional figure and the number of deaths during the second quarter is not yet available. I am advised that no specific reason can be given for the prevalence of this disease, but that there is no evidence of exceptional incidence in the country as a whole.
