HC Deb 09 July 1925 vol 186 c591
32. Mr. HARRIS

asked the Minister of Health whether there has been a public inquiry into the proposed public baths and washhouses in Bethnal Green: whether he is aware that there are no swimming baths in the borough; whether, in giving his decision, he will bear in mind the thousands of children in elementary schools who have at present no proper opportunity to learn to swim; and, if objection is taken to brick structure, whether he will sanction the building if constructed of concrete?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

A public inquiry has recently been held, and I am aware of the local conditions. In view of the large number of bricks required, I doubt whether I could allow a brick structure, but I should be prepared to consider proposals for a concrete building.
