HC Deb 07 July 1925 vol 186 c212
35. Mr. D. GRENFELL

asked the Secretary for Mines if he will give the figures showing the comparative extent of un employment in the coal industries in Great Britain and the United States at the end of 1924?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of LABOUR (Mr. Betterton)

I have been asked to reply. The percentage of workpeople unemployed in coal mining on 22nd December, 1924, in Great Britain was 79. No statistics of unemployment are published by the United States Government and I regret therefore that I am unable to supply comparative figures for that country.
