36. Mr. GRENFELL

also asked the Secretary for Mines if he will furnish the statistics showing the number of days lost through industrial disputes in the coalfields of Great Britain, France, Belgium and Germany during the years 1922–23 and 1923–24?

Mr. BETTERTON

I have been asked to reply. The approximate number of working days lost through industrial disputes in the coal mining industry in Great Britain was 1,246,000 in 1922; 1,183,000 in 1923 and 1,460,000 in 1924. For Belgium the figures were approximately 206,000 in 1922; 480,000 in 1923 and 2.527,000 in 1924. Corresponding figures for France and Germany are not available.
