§ 80. Sir FREDRIC WISE
asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the Government have ever explicitly rejected the claim of the Egyption Government that they are not bound to continue the service of the Ottoman loans secured on the Egyptian tribute?
Yes, Sir. On the 3rd October, the late Prime Minister informed Zaghlul Pasha that His Majesty's Government did not for one moment admit the right of the Egyptian Government in law or in equity to shirk their obligations in respect of these loans. 2428 His Majesty's present Government adhere to the attitude adopted by their predecessors in this matter.
§ Sir F. WISE
Might I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether this is a political or a financial matter?
