HC Deb 03 March 1924 vol 170 c976
65. Sir BURTON CHADWICK

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies (1) whether, in view of the anticipated shortage of accommodation for visitors in London during the time of the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley, the Government is taking any steps to prevent inconvenience to the public owing to lack of accommodation;

(2) whether he will consider the desirability of the British Government arranging with the Dominion Governments for the provision of suitable passenger ships to be moored in the Thames in order to supplement available accommodation for visitors to the British Empire Exhibition?

Mr. LUNN (Secretary, Overseas Trade Department)

I will answer these two questions together. I have given very careful consideration, to the important subject referred to by the hon. Member, and have stated in reply to previous questions the steps which have been taken in the matter by the authorities of the British Empire Exhibition. I doubt if the Government can usefully take further action in the matter.
