HC Deb 18 June 1924 vol 174 c2124
71. Mr. BLACK

asked the Minister of Health the number of medically certified deaths due to vaccination for each year, 1920, 1921, 1922, and 1923; and the number of medically certified deaths due to small-pox in each of the aforesaid years?

Mr. WHEATLEY

As the answer is necessarily rather long, I propose, with permission, to circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

The reply is as follows:

The available records do not permit of the deaths in question being distinguished as between those registered upon medical certificate alone, those registered upon the coroner's certificate after inquest—with or without medical certificate—and those registered upon neither medical certificate nor coroner's certificate after inquest. Of the totals given below, some were doubtless registered after inquest, though few, if any, are likely to have been wholly uncertified.

Deaths from
Year. Vaccination. Smallpox.
1920 9 30
1921 3 5
1922 4 27
1923 8 7*
