HC Deb 22 July 1924 vol 176 c1111
39. Sir W. de FRECE

asked the Secretary for Mines the causes explanatory of the recent diminution of our coal exports and give the direction in which this diminution has taken place?

Mr. SHINWELL

The recent diminution of our coal exports is, no doubt, chiefly due to the resumption of coal-getting in the Ruhr district, from which Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Italy are now drawing a large part of the supplies which were drawn in 1923 from Great Britain.
