HC Deb 22 July 1924 vol 176 c1107
26. Mr. MACPHERSON

asked the Secretary for Scotland what was the estimated cost of the Balnacra Bridge, Strathcarron, submitted by the surveyor of the Board of Agriculture and by the surveyor of the south-western district of Ross-shire; and what was the recommendation submitted to the Board of Agriculture by the county council?

Mr. ADAMSON

No estimate of the cost of erecting a bridge at Balnacra has been made by a surveyor of the Board of Agriculture, but the Board surveyor for the South-Western District of Ross-shire has estimated the cost of this work at £227 16s. 6d. The County Council recommended to the Board that a grant should be made to permit this work to be carried out.

Mr. MACPHERSON

Can the right hon. Gentleman say if the Board intend to proceed with the erection of the bridge in view of the fact that it is necessary in the winter that the bridge should be constructed to let children go to school?

Mr. ADAMSON

I cannot at present say more than that this and similar applications have been noted for further consideration as the state of the funds of the Board permit.
