HC Deb 21 July 1924 vol 176 cc845-6
4. Mr. LANSBURY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether his attention has been called to the fact that two workmen employed by the Bombay and Baroda Railway Company have been discharged because they took part in organising a trade union meeting; and will he ask the Government of India to inquire into the matter, with a view to the re-instatement of these men, seeing that trade unions are legal organisations within the Dominion of India?

Mr. RICHARDS

The matter does not seem to be one in which the Government of India can interfere, but I understand that one of the workmen referred to has brought an action against the company for wrongful dismissal.
