HC Deb 17 July 1924 vol 176 cc586-7
61. Mr. C. EDWARDS

asked the Minister of Health whether He is aware that many boards of guardians are refusing to recognise non-resident relief, with the result that many homes are being broken up or that great privation ensues through their refusal to go into the workhouse; and will he take steps to make it compulsory on boards of guardians to grant such non-resident relief?

Mr. A. GREENWOOD

My right hon. Friend understands that this matter is engaging the attention of the Association of Poor Law Unions in England and Wales and he will be prepared to consider any proposals which the Association think it desirable to submit to him.
