HC Deb 07 July 1924 vol 175 cc1773-4
73. Mr. ELLIS DAVIES

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he intends to act on the suggestion of the Tribunal of Agriculture and cause an inquiry to be made as to the desirability of applying the Evesham custom to all forms of agriculture?

Mr. BUXTON

A tentative step was taken in Section 15 of the Agriculture Act, 1920 (now Section 49 of the Agricultural Holdings Act, 1923), in the direction of extending the scope of what is known as the "Evesham Custom," and as far as I am aware the advantage taken of this Section has been slight. I shall be glad to receive any further evidence of the need for amendment of the Agricultural Holdings Act in this direction.

Mr. DAVIES

Is it not the case that the Tribunal of Agriculture suggested that the Government should hold an inquiry into the Evesham custom, and could he give me some information on that point?

Mr. BUXTON

I am making every possible inquiry into this matter.
