The staff of the Food Department has now been reduced to 34 officers, who are mainly engaged in the liquidation of accounts and claims. The cost of the salaries of the staff of the Department was £17,481 for the first nine months of the financial year, during which period they saved or recovered £895,000 for the Exchequer
