HC Deb 18 February 1924 vol 169 c1283
10. Lieut.-Colonel HOWARD-BURY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he can give any information with regard to the Indianisation of the Indian Army: and whether the experiment has proved a success?

Mr. RICHARDS

Indianisation of the Indian Army was started in two Indian cavalry regiments and six Indian infantry battalions last year, and one Indian officer with King's Commission will be posted to each of these units each year in place of a British officer. It is obvious that it is too early as yet to gauge the prospects of success.

Lieut.-Colonel HOWARD-BURY

Has it already started?

Mr. RICHARDS

Yes.
