§ 56. Mr. W. WATSONasked the Prime Minister if his attention has been called to the results of the recent poll under the Temperance (Scotland) Act.; and if, seeing that the progress towards temperance cannot be achieved by this Act, he will consider the appointment of a commission to inquire into its operation with a view to amendment, and report to the House before any steps are taken to apply a similar Measure to other parts of. Great Britain?
§ Mr. CLYNESI am aware of the general effect of the results of the recent polls under the Temperance (Scotland) Act. A complete return has been obtained by the Scottish Office and it is proposed to present it shortly to the House. My right hon. Friend the Secretary for Scotland is considering a number of points which have been raised in relation to the Scottish Act. I am not in a position to say at present whether any committee will be appointed to inquire into its operation.
