§ 38. Mr. FRANK GRAYasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware 445 that certain building operations are held up by reason of the shortage of supply of English bricks; whether he has any information as to the reason for this; and whether he can inform the House if there are a number of brickfields, working in 1914, which have not been reopened since the War?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINI am aware that there is a temporary shortage of bricks in London and the South-Eastern Counties, and am informed that the Committee on Building Materials Prices will deal with this question in their report, which will be presented this week. There are, no doubt, some brickfields which, for economic reasons, are not producing at present, but I have no records of the numbers of them.
