HC Deb 04 July 1923 vol 166 c444
86. Mr. SNOWDEN

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies how many Jews and how many persons who, though not professing Jews, are of Jewish extraction are included among the superior officers of the Palestine administration; what appointments they severally hold; and what proportion they bear to the toal number of superior officers?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Ormsby-Gore)

As I informed the hon. Member for Frome on the 20th March, of the 35 highest posts in the Palestine Administration, apart from that of the High Commissioner himself, 33 are held by British Christians and two by British Jews. Of these 33 Christians, I am given to understand that two may be described as being of Jewish extraction, though not Jews by religion. I do not think any useful purpose would be served by giving the names of these two latter gentlemen or indicating the particular posts held by them.
