HC Deb 01 August 1923 vol 167 cc1468-9
65. Mr. WRIGHT

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that in July, 1922, his Department received a petition from the inhabitants of the village of Dorsington in the County of Gloucester, complaining of the lack of a proper water supply for the village, and asking the Ministry of Health to take steps to secure a proper supply of water for the village; that repeated efforts have been made over a long period of time to persuade the rural district council to move in the matter without any result; that the only supply of water for this village is dipped from an open well situated between two pasture fields; and that the inhabitants are obliged to carry this water in buckets a distance of from 500 yards to half a mile; whether his Department has received a report from the Gloucestershire County Council on this matter, together with a request that some steps be taken to remedy the evil; and what steps he is taking to see that a proper supply is provided?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I am aware of the circumstances referred to by the hon. Member, and I am already in communication with the rural district council in regard to the matter.

Mr. C. ROBERTS

Will the Minister consider the advisability of additional legislative powers for providing these water supplies?
