HC Deb 01 August 1923 vol 167 cc1471-2
77. Mr. D. G. SOMERVILLE

asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been called to the large number of recent accidents to public-service vehicles, in which passengers are reported as having been injured by broken glass; and whether he will consider suggesting to the various local authorities the advisability of fitting their vehicles with glass of a non-splinterable variety?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of TRANSPORT (Colonel Ashley)

I have been asked to answer this question. I am not aware that there has been any substantial increase recently in the number of injuries caused by broken glass in connection with accidents to public service vehicles. I am anxious to encourage the use of some satisfactory form of non-splinterable glass in all passenger-carrying vehicles, but I am advised that the cost is so great that it would not be practicable to impose any condition with regard to its use.
