HC Deb 19 April 1923 vol 162 cc2239-40
47. Mr. JAMES ERSKINE

asked the Prime Minister whether the Government will now reconsider their policy of aloofness and join hands with France and Belgium with a view, not only of expediting a settlement of the reparation question, but also to hasten the evacuation of the Ruhr and contiguous territory?

Mr. BALDWIN

I can add nothing to the repeated declarations of policy made on behalf of the Government relating to the action of France and Belgium in the Ruhr.

Mr. ERSKINE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that in a speech made at the meeting of the Associated Chambers of Commerce yesterday, Mr. Arthur Balfour (Sheffield) is reported to have said: Great Britain could not stand on one side and allow the present position——

Mr. SPEAKER

The hon. Member cannot enter into that matter.
