HC Deb 12 April 1923 vol 162 c1304
Lieut.-Colonel COATES (by Private Notice)

asked the Prime Minister whether he can state what is the attitude of the Government regarding the restriction of imported potatoes; and whether he is aware that the adoption of the Tribunal Report thereon would go a long way to re-establishing confidence in the Government among the distressed areas in East Anglia?

Mr. BALDWIN

I am aware of the grave difficulties of potato growers in East Anglia and elsewhere, but the suggested restriction of imports of potatoes raises important questions of policy and has been remitted with other recommendations of the Tribunal, for immediate examination by a special Sub-Committee of the Cabinet. Until that Committee has considered the question, my hon. and gallant Friend will, I am sure, realise that I cannot make any statement as to the Government's attitude in the matter. There will, however, be no avoidable delay in reaching a decision.
