HC Deb 12 April 1923 vol 162 c1286
34. Sir JOHN HEWETT

asked the Home Secretary whether, in order to prevent the recurrence of a case like that of Doris Hawker, he will, until provided with the necessary legal powers in the matter, make known to societies or institutions which undertake the charge of orphan children that it is undesirable, on moral, educational, and physical grounds, to send orphan children to India at an age when the parents of British children resident there, who can afford to do so, would be arranging to send them out of that country?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I will give careful consideration to my hon. Friend's suggestion.
