HC Deb 26 June 1922 vol 155 c1673
51. Mr. LYLE-SAMUEL

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he would approve the publication and distribution in all publicly provided schools throughout the country of the recent address of Sir James Barrie at St. Andrew's University on courage?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Herbert Fisher)

While I share the hon. Member's admiration for Sir James Barrie's address, I do not think it desirable to establish a precedent for the publication and distribution by the Board of Education of addresses, however admirable, delivered by eminent persons. I am afraid that such a precedent might lead to considerable embarrassment.
