HC Deb 26 July 1922 vol 157 c434
11. Viscount CURZON

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether he is aware that it has been stated that the Government are unable to resume the issue of clasps to the fighting services at present; whether, in view of this decision, there is any objection to officers and men providing clasps at their own expense when they are entitled to them; and will he state what clasps are issued to the Navy?

Mr. AMERY

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part, the matter is now under consideration. The conditions which will govern the award of Naval Clasps are given in Admiralty Weekly Order 2051/1920.

Viscount CURZON

Is my right hon. Friend aware of the very considerable discontent that exists throughout the Royal Navy at the discontinuance, of the issue of clasps; and will he bear this in mind when he is further considering the matter, whether officers can buy these at their own private expense?

Mr. AMERY

That. is being considered.

Lieut. - Commander KENWORTHY

What is the enormous staff of the Admiralty doing if they cannot issue clasps at 30 per cent. more than pre-War?

Mr. GIDEON MURRAY

If they wear these clasps, do they wear them at their own risk?
