HC Deb 26 July 1922 vol 157 c435
18. Major KELLEY

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that there has been for now six months a dispute as to the rate of wages to be paid at the Cauklow Pit, Rotherham; that this is a very serious matter for a large number of workers and their families; and can he take any steps to try and bring the parties concerned together and see if some understanding can be come to?

The SECRETARY for MINES (Mr. Bridgeman)

I have been asked to reply. I am aware that one of the pits of the Rotherham Main Colliery, known as the Canklow Pit., has been closed since February last as a result of a dispute on the question of piece-workers rates. I have no direct information as to the present position, though I understand from the Press that negotiations are now going on. I am, however, making inquiries, and will communicate the result to the hon. and gallant Member as soon as possible.
