§ 25. Mr. NEVILLE CHAMBERLAINasked the Home Secretary when it is proposed to introduce the Bill dealing with the legitimation of children by the subsequent marriage of their parents?
§ Sir J. BAIRDMy right hon. Friend stated in reply to a question last Thursday that he regretted he was not yet in a position to give a date, but he hoped the Bill would not be long delayed.
§ Mr. CHAMBERLAINDoes the Home Secretary not realise that the long delay in bringing forward this Bill is giving rise to very grave doubts among persons interested as to whether the Government really mean business? Can the hon. Gentleman give a definite assurance that the Government do mean to proceed with the Bill this Session?
§ Sir J. BAIRDMy right hon. Friend quite appreciates that, and we are endeavouring to come to an arrangement to introduce a Bill as soon as we can. There will be no avoidable delay.
