HC Deb 04 July 1922 vol 156 cc177-8
19. Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has any information as to the allegations made that Harry Thuku had formerly been found guilty of forgery and fraud; and, if not, will he make inquiries on this matter from the Chief Native Commissioner of Kenya, seeing that information as to these alleged crimes by Thuku have been circulated to the Press in this country?

Mr. WOOD

In a despatch received from the Governor of Kenya in November, 1921, it is stated that Harry Thuku at one time served a sentence of two years' imprisonment for forgery. I have no other information of the circumstance.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Has the hon. Gentleman not received information from Kenya?

Mr. WOOD

The information I have received is that Thuku was at one time convicted of forgery.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

From whom did that come?

Mr. WOOD

In a despatch from the Governor in November, 1921, as I have stated.
