HC Deb 04 July 1922 vol 156 cc186-7
46. Lieut.-Colonel MURRAY

asked the Prime Minister if he will indicate the nature of the duties performed by the editor of the Cabinet secretariat?

The PRIME MINISTER

The editor of the Cabinet Secretariat prepares weekly summaries of information for communication to members of the Cabinet and the Prime Ministers of the self-governing Dominions. These summaries are compiled from telegrams, despatches and reports furnished by a number of Government Departments. The reports originated during the War, and were continued after the Prime Ministers of the Dominions had been consulted and had expressed themselves in favour of their retention. The cost of the staff has been reduced from £2,0C6 to £900 a year. The Prime Ministers of the Dominions are being consulted again as to whether these reports could now be dispensed with.

Captain W. BENN

Does the Secretariat prepare any matter for publication in the Press?
