Mr. HANNONasked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies if His Majesty's Government will make representations to the Legislature of Trinidad, drawing its attention to the inequitable effect on British industrial interests of its recent Ordinance rendering firms and companies non-resident in the island, but doing business there through resident agents, liable to Income Tax on the profits earned in the island?
§ Mr. ORMSBY-GOREAn Interdepartmental Committee was appointed at the beginning of this year to investigate all problems in connection with the Income Tax Laws of the Colonies and Protectorates, including the provisions of the Ordinance to which the hon. Member refers. Their Report has been received and will shortly be laid before the House. The Report contains certain recommendations on the subject of the taxation of agents, and the Government of Trinidad will be asked to take these recommendations into consideration.
