HC Deb 06 May 1920 vol 128 cc2224-5
62. Captain W. BENN

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether any military or naval support is being given to General Wrangel; and whether the Government have promised him help in holding the Crimea?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I have nothing to add to the answer given by my right hon. Friend, the Secretary of State for War, on the 20th April.

Captain BENN

May we assume that the statement in regard to the order issued by General Wrangel in regard to the Bolshevik attack is inaccurate?

Mr. BONAR LAW

Oh, no! We have stated to the House that, with a view of preventing the massacre of the remnants of this force, we have communicated with the Soviet Government, and we had hoped that, while these negotiations were pending, no attack would be made. We have said that if an attack is made we shall help to defend these people.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Will these places be evacuated as soon as shipping is available?
