HC Deb 31 March 1920 vol 127 c1254
77. Captain TERRELL

asked the President of the Board of Education why it is that supplementary teachers have for many years been and still are recognised as forming part of the teaching staff and yet are excluded from the benefits accruing to the teaching profession, namely, the pension scheme and the Burnham scale?

Mr. FISHER

A supplementary teacher is only recognised in connection with a particular school. Her recognition is subject to reconsideration from year to year and may be withdrawn at any time. These teachers are not regarded, and have no qualifications entitling them to be regarded, as regular members of the teaching profession.
