KINLOCH-COOKEasked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether the Government have taken any steps to reconsider the recommendations of the Colwyn Report as regards merchant shipbuilding in the royal dockyards since the presentation of the Naval Estimates; and, if so, will he give the results of such reconsideration?
§ Mr. LONGThe recommendations of the Colwyn Committee are being carried out, with the sole exception that vessels of a mercantile type are being built for the use of the Admiralty instead of to the order of private firms. The possibility of laying down other vessels later in the year is now being examined.
