Colonel WEDGWOODasked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that in August last a despatch was addressed by the Secretary of State for the Colonies to Lord Buxton intimating that Lord Milner was unwilling to agree to the grant of responsible government to Rhodesia at present; and if he will say whether this was more than an expression of opinion from the Secretary of State, or whether it was in fact a decision of the Imperial Government?
§ Lieut.-Colonel AMERYI have nothing to add to the statement made by Lord Buxton in his speech at Salisbury on the 26th August last, when he explained that the Secretary of State had expressed the views of His Majesty's Government, but that these views were in the circumstances necessarily provisional.
