HC Deb 17 June 1920 vol 130 c1451
66. Mr. GILBERT

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the number of detective officers and men of the Metropolitan Police Force has recently been increased, and, if so, to what extent; whether this means an increase in the total police force for London; and if he will state if detectives receive extra pay for their work and what amounts officers and men receive?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Shortt)

One hundred additional constables have recently been authorised for the Criminal Investigation Department. This does not involve any increase in the establishment of the Force, as the strength of the Uniform Branch is to be reduced by a corresponding number. Detective officers receive, in addition to the ordinary pay of their rank, the following weekly non-pensionable allowances:—

s. d.
Superintendents 15 0
Chief inspectors 12 6
Other inspectors 10 0
Sergeants 7 6
Constables 5 0
