HC Deb 17 June 1920 vol 130 cc1440-1
Mr. MACQUISTEN (by Private Notice)

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Munitions whether his attention has been called to the allegations against the Ministry in connection with what is known as the Chilwell dump, and, if so, what he is going to do about it?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of MUNITIONS (Mr. James Hope)

The Ministry of Munitions has not been responsible for the Chilwell factory for a long time—I think for 14 months.

Mr. BILLING

Can the hon. Gentleman say who is responsible?

Mr. MACQUISTEN

And will he see that correct information is given to the Press in connection with these matters, because this is very misleading? We want to know who is responsible.

Mr. HOPE

We always give full and accurate information to all who seek it.

Mr. BILLING

Who is responsible for the Chilwell dump?

Mr. MACQUISTEN

Has the hon. Gentleman seen the article in the "Times"?

Mr. SPEAKER

The hon. gentleman cannot really be responsible for what appears in newspapers.

Mr. BILLING

May I ask who is responsible for the Chilwell dump?

Mr. HOPE

The Chilwell factory came under the War Office at the end of the last financial year but one. I have not had time to verify the actual date. I have no information as to its present management.
