HC Deb 12 July 1920 vol 131 cc1953-4
28. Mr. N. MACLEAN

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been drawn to the agreement made on 1st February, 1914, between Reuter's agency and the Kolsai agency of Japan; whether the Reuter service from Japan is now entirely supplied by the Kolsai agency; whether the British Foreign Office had given its approval to this arrangement; and whether, in view of the news thus coming from a Japanese source is circulated through the world as if it came from a British agency, he will consider the possibility of taking steps which will remove this misunderstanding, which has already caused much dissatisfaction among British and American residents in the Far East?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS: (Mr. Cecil Harmsworth)

The answer to parts one and two of the hon. Member's question is in the affirmative, and to part three in the negative. With regard to part four, His Majesty's Government do not see what steps they can usefully take in the direction of the hon. Member's suggestion.
