HC Deb 12 July 1920 vol 131 c1953
27. Captain TUDOR-REES

asked the Prime Minister whether he has consulted the Law Officers of the Crown as to whether it is possible for extradition proceedings to be commenced against the ex-Kaiser; and, if so, with what result?

Mr. BONAR LAW

The Law Officers took part in discussions in the Cabinet at the time of the correspondence with the Dutch Government.

Mr. PALMER

May I ask whether the Prime Minister had received the opinion of the Law Officers of the Crown when, at the general election, he promised to "fetch him out"?

Mr. GRITTEN

Does the right hon. Gentleman still adhere to the opinion he gave in answer to a question of mine last week, that the term of the ex-Kaiser's holiday among his Dutch friends is to be commensurate with the term of his life?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I said that that probably might be the case.

Mr. BILLING

Is it not a fact that the Government never had the slightest intention of trying the ex-Kaiser, for secret political reasons?

Mr. BONAR LAW

It is not a fact.
