HC Deb 12 July 1920 vol 131 c1943
56. Mr. GILBERT

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will state the amount paid each year by the Government to the Metropolitan District Railway Company under the agreement made by the former President of the Board of Trade with that Company; and will he state what is the estimated amount that will be paid during the present year?

Sir E. GEDDES

As my reply consists mainly of figures, perhaps my hon. Friend will allow me to circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

The following is the reply:

The amounts paid as compensation in respect of the period 5th August, 1914, to 30th April, 1920, under the agreements are as follows:—

£
1914 31,490
1915 83,097
1916 165,797
1917 261,136
1918 412,227
1919 675,978
1920 (4 months to April) 311,811

and at the present rate the claim for the year 1920 would amount to approximately £1,000,000. The payments since 1916 are on account and subject to audit.

In addition £35,826 has been paid in respect of interest on capital expenditure and £28,110 in respect of arrears of maintenance under the normal arrangements in regard to those matters.
