HC Deb 12 July 1920 vol 131 c1924
8. Sir J. D. REES

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether the reduction announced in the import duty on champagne will be followed by a representation to the French Government as to the desirability of relaxing its order in respect of importation of silk, lace, and the like goods from this country?

Sir R. HORNE

Representations have already been made to the French Government with regard to the effect of the French Import Prohibitions on Franco-British trade. So far as silk mourning crepe is concerned, I understand that the import prohibition was removed on 5th July. This is gratifying evidence of the friendly spirit of mutual consideration between the two countries.
