REESasked the President of the Board of Trade whether the reduction announced in the import duty on champagne will be followed by a representation to the French Government as to the desirability of relaxing its order in respect of importation of silk, lace, and the like goods from this country?
§ Sir R. HORNERepresentations have already been made to the French Government with regard to the effect of the French Import Prohibitions on Franco-British trade. So far as silk mourning crepe is concerned, I understand that the import prohibition was removed on 5th July. This is gratifying evidence of the friendly spirit of mutual consideration between the two countries.
