38. Mr. HIGHAM

asked the Prime Minister if, in view of the fact that the Government cannot efficiently and profitably conduct the telephones, he will consider the advisability of receiving tenders from private sources to purchase this business?

The PRIME MINISTER

The Government are not prepared to adopt the suggestion of my hon. Friend.

39. Mr. HIGHAM

asked the Prime Minister if, in view of the fact that the Government cannot efficiently and profitably conduct public utility companies, such as the telephone and railways, he will consider the advisability of the Government not taking over any further business enterprises of any nature?

The PRIME MINISTER

I think the views of the Government on this subject have already been stated.

Can we have specific details of the loss of the telephone service?
