Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

The answers to this and the following question contain many figures and with my hon. and gallant Friend's permission I will circulate them in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

To Question No. 1:

The total number of men employed on clerical and administrative work in the Ministry of Pensions is 6,200, of whom 938 are employed on work more responsible than Grade I., 102 are employed on Grade I. work, 430 on Grade II. work and 4,640 on Grade III work. These figures do not include the Medical Officers of the Ministry. There is no grade of "assistant group heads" among the male staff.

To Question NO. 2:

The total number of ex-service men employed on clerical or administrative work in the Ministry of Pensions is 5,577, of whom 4,413 have had service overseas and 1,946 have been disabled in the War. Except by enquiry of each man I cannot ascertain which of these men were in the firing line.

The numbers of ex-service men in each grade are as follow:—

Disabled. Not Disabled.
On work more responsible than Grade I 258 419
Grade I. work 50 106
Grade II. work 138 236
Grade III. work 1,491 2,870
1,946 3,631

The Medical Officers of the Ministry are not included in these figures.
