HC Deb 12 February 1920 vol 125 c197
12. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland, whether he will state on what charge the honourable Member for St. Stephen's Green has been imprisoned; whether he is aware that the hon. Member has been unanimously elected lord Mayor of Dublin; whether it is proposed to bring the honourable Member to trial: and, if so, when this will be done?

Mr. MACPHERSON

Under an Order made in pursuance of the Defence of the Realm Regulations the hon. Member referred to in the question has been deported from Ireland and interned in Wormwood Scrubs Prison as a person suspected of having acted and being about to act in a manner prejudicial to the public safety and the Defence of the Realm. The answer to the second part of the question is in the affirmative.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Can I have an answer to the third part of the question, as to when the trial is to take place?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I have already said that the order is for deportation.
