HC Deb 12 February 1920 vol 125 c222
49. Commander BELLAIRS

asked the Prime Minister whether Viscount Grey is to return to Washington; and, if not, who will be his successor?

The PRIME MINISTER

I am not able to make any statement for the present.

50. Commander BELLAIRS

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware of the financial difficulties attached to the post of Ambassador to Washington and the consequent limitation in the choice of a representative; and, if so, whether the salary is to be increased?

The PRIME MINISTER

I am aware of the fact that the post of British Ambassador at Washington is one which entails large expenditure, and the question whether a revision of the Ambassador's emoluments will be necessary, as soon as a permanent appointment to the post is made, is already under consideration.
