HC Deb 10 August 1920 vol 133 c217
84. Sir WALTER DE FRECE

asked the Minister of Labour how many ex-service men have been reabsorbed in industry; and how many of these have found employment through the medium of the employment exchanges?

Sir M. BARLOW

Of the total number of men demobilised or discharged up to the end of July, approximately 5,000,000, it is estimated that the number not yet reabsorbed into industry is about 200,000, and it may be assumed that the balance of about 4,800,000 have been reabsorbed into industry or provided for otherwise. The number of such men for whom employment has been found through the medium of the employment exchanges is 564,403.

Mr. RAPER

Does that refer to men only, or does it include officers?

Sir M. BARLOW

I believe it includes officers, but without notice I am not quite certain.
