HC Deb 10 August 1920 vol 133 cc225-6
54. Mr. HOGGE

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether it is the intention of the Government to comply with the renewed recommendation of the National Expenditure Select Committee to the effect that an Estimates Committee of the House should be appointed to consider Estimates when presented to the House, and report upon them before discussion in Committee on Supply?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Chamberlain)

I would refer the hon. Member to the numerous previous answers on this question, and in particular to the answer which I gave to the hon. Member for Oxford on the 26th February last.

Mr. HOGGE

Will he answer my question as to whether he is going to set up an Estimates Committee?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The hon. Gentleman must be good enough to refer to the reasoned answer to which I have alluded, and to which I have nothing to dd.

Mr. HOGGE

Will the right hon. Gentleman say "yes" or "no"?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I will certainly say "no" if that be any satisfaction to the hon. Gentleman.
