HC Deb 10 August 1920 vol 133 cc235-6
80. Major ENTWISTLE

asked the Minister of Transport if he will press the Rates Advisory Committee to consider the increase of rates and tolls on the canals and report on the same before 31st August, when control will cease and canals will be working on pre-War revenue to meet post-War expenses?

Mr. NEAL

The Rates Advisory Committee have already given consideration to this matter. It will be necessary to deal individually with each canal undertaking of which possession has been or will be taken by the Minister. I have no reason to doubt that, in the case of those whose applications were received in time, direction can be given to enable them to increase their tolls and charges by the date already given, namely, the 14th September next.
