HC Deb 20 April 1920 vol 128 cc226-7
66. Mr. SITCH

asked the Minister of Food if his attention has been drawn to the prices set out in a circular issued by the Great Western and Metropolitan Dairies, Limited, to farmers who are there offered Is. 7d. per gallon for milk during the current month for which the consumer is charged at the rate of 3s. 4d. per gallon; and whether he contemplates taking any action in the matter?

Mr. McCURDY

I understand that the figure of 1s. 7d. per gallon in the circular referred to by the hon. Member is an offer made to the producer for surplus milk to be used for cheese making. This price is not comparable to the price of 3s. 4d. to the consumer for consumption as liquid milk, which includes wholesale and retail distribution costs.
